MacroInvertebrate Survey

IMG_5907.JPG

A macro-invertebrate survey is done quarterly.

Our usual process is to take a sample in a run and a riffle in the same area of the stream each time.

We can get a rating, called a macroinvertebrate community index (MCI). This is an indicator of the streams health over time. Currently the health of the stream is of concern.

We often find mayfly larvae, caddisfly larvae, snails, worms, amphipods and other organisms.

We capture organisms for counting and then release then back where we found them.
