Fish Surveys

Setting the fyke net

Twice a year we take a survey of the stream that focuses on the fish life.

Our usual process is to lay out six fyke nets overnight at selected sites: three above and three below the weir.

We often find inanga and eels.  We catch the fish, then we count and identify before releasing.

We conduct these surveys to monitor the health of the stream which is still below acceptable standards. We are concerned about fish numbers.
