Rubbish collection
On the first weekend of the month, teams of volunteers spend time picking up rubbish. Hutt City Council provides the bags which are picked up on Monday morning. This graph shows the number of bags (blue column) collected for the entire stream for the most recent years and the number of hours volunteered (orange column).

Fish survey of 2019
The Friends of Waiwhetu helped a Citizen Science project by counting fish species at several sites above and below a weir. Several species were found: short-fin eel, long-fin eel, inanga,
common bully, giant kokupu. This year there were giant common bullies and many eels.
Three sites below and three above the weir can tell us how well the inanga and eels are managing to swim upstream. Images below by Grant Webby
